The right approach for the U.S. in the Ukraine-Russia standoff according to Doug Macgreggor: Do absolutely nothing, at least right now.
I would say they needs to be a referendum in Ukraine province/state by province if they want to stay in Ukraine or join Russia.
If it is a simple majority either way then re-vote in 4 years.
If there is a super majority in any province/state that wants to join Russia, then they can join up with Russia.
