Turns out many of the politicians calling for student loan debt forgiveness/cancellation have lots of it themselves. I'd be for some sort of bankruptcy procedure restored for unsecured priority debt such as student loans where debtors are put on an income-based repayment plan like what's already in place for "public service" workers. That way the consequences for people who made a mistake due to ignorance and/or manipulation remain but are kept surmountable.
