I prefer calling what Democrats are trying to save or advance leftism. Say Socialism, some people around here will respond, "Oh, you mean the good kind some European countries had in the 20th century? Count me in!" Say Communism, you'll get some "real Communism hasn't been tried/didn't get a chance because saboteurs wouldn't let it work; let's give Communism a real chance now" canard.
